technology can be my idol

Technology, like anything else in this world, is subject to the curse of Genesis 3.

I don’t know about you, but in my hands, tools that were originally intended for a purpose, tools that were created neutral (neither good nor bad) can become dangerous if I’m not careful.

My heart is desperately dark, and without the light of Christ, it will constantly long for things other than God, especially in the area of technology.

For me, there is an unmistakable connection between technology and idolatry. Maybe I’m alone here, but my heart is constantly wanting the next best, biggest, brightest, smallest, most powerful thing I can get my hands on because even though I wouldn’t admit it, deep down I believe that this new thing can meet some sort of deep need that I have.

The moment I think that something created can meet my needs, it begins slowly replacing the very God who not only created the need, but wants to meet it.

Pause and Reflect: Do you find yourself desiring the next technological thing more than you desire God?
