5 Questions on Leadership #3 (of 6)

Question #2 - Who is our customer?

This one’s simple. At Consumed our customer is anyone and everyone between grades 6 and 12.

Here’s a list of words you could used to describe our people:

Christian, non-Chrisitan, good, bad, happy, sad, hungry for God, depressed, mad at God, interested in God, oblivious of God, straight A student, pot-head, only child, loving of others, contemplating suicide, youngest of many siblings, football player, cheerleader, gothic, skinny, heavy, resentful of parents, in love with older guy, interested in sex, passionate about purity, willing to serve, selfish, grew up in church, parents make me to go church, comitted, a leader, confused, worried, scared, joyful, unsure about a God that loves, self-conscious of worship, only interested in having fun, preppy, a loner, on fire…

The list could go on and on.

At Consumed we have a mix of students. We don’t have “church-kids.” We don’t want church-kids. We want students from each and every walk of life, in every circumstance, with every imaginable attitude you can think of. We want these students so we can show them that God is the same to everyone. God is real. God is relevant. God cares and loves them regardless of whether anyone else does or not.

We don’t want students to conform to some church mold. We want them to be unique, indvidual, and themselves in the context of relationship with Christ. (We do want them to lay down their sin of course! This one should be an obvious! Some of the things listed about are not behavior or attitudes we want for them.) We want them to be who God created them to be. That might mean they are loud, dressed in black with long shaggy hair. That might mean they have a mohawk and wear their pants sagging to their knees. None of it matters. We want students who are committed and following Christ - that’s all that matters.

At Consumed, who is our customer? Our customer is students. Regardless of what kind.
